What is the MVB Sprint Day?

9 hours from idea to a Minimum Viable Business.

At Tramlines we talk a lot about building your Minimum Viable Business. It's never been easier to do this because the barrier to entry is no longer building the tech. What's defensible in the new age of AI is your domain expertise, tactical knowledge and networks.

The MVB Sprint Day gives you access to our team and the tools you need to take your idea to initial execution. This includes building a Minimum Viable Prototype, but it isn't a regular hackathon because the tech isn't the hard part. We're also going to teach you and work with you to get your first customers and build your go-to-market plan.

And for the best MVB from the day? One founder or team will win £50k of business incubation, tech development and a chance to pitch for £250k in January to our fund.

What you win

One prize. One founder or team takes all of it.

£50k

Of Tramlines incubation support, and it includes:

  • 3 months working with our senior team
  • A fast-track to our January IC to pitch for £250k investment
  • 4x runner up winners will join Albert for breakfast

Who is this for?

You've spent 10+ years in your sector. You've always noticed a better way to do it, but you've not known how to turn that into a business.

You don't need a co-founder. We'll accept solo applicants, and we'll also assess applicants to support in matching for the day. If we think there's a good fit between 2-3 applicants with similar ideas and complementary skill sets, we'll contact you.

Very early-stage existing founders can also apply as long as you're pre-revenue and pre-external funding.

You're someone who knows a sector deeply enough that you can see the exact workflow, buyer, or piece of infrastructure AI is about to change. You don't need to have started building yet. You do need to have been inside the industry long enough to see what most people can't.

We're especially looking for domain experts from:

Mature services being reshaped by AI

Recruitment, legal, accounting, financial services, HR, marketing, PR, branding, IT services and MSPs, web development, e-commerce, business consultancy, dentistry, funeral care.

Operational industries where AI plus software can rewire how the business runs

Haulage, logistics, shipping, and corners of manufacturing.

If your industry isn't on this list but you've spent 10+ years inside it and can see where AI is about to change the game, apply anyway. Some of the best businesses will come from sectors we haven't listed.

Your idea needs to be B2B or B2B2C (business-to-business, or business-to-business-to-consumer).

You need a UK-registered company, or be willing to incorporate in the UK if you go on to found one.

Why are we doing this?

Most domain experts with a great idea never start a company. They think they need to be able to code, find a co-founder, or already have the plan worked out. Five years ago that was true. It isn't now.

This day proves it. Walk in with a decade in your sector and an idea you can't stop thinking about. Walk out with a working product, a validated customer, a plan for your first 10 sales, and (if you win) £50k of incubation support plus a shot at £250k in January.

Even if you don't win, you leave with a real product, direct feedback from our team, and a peer group of other domain experts working the same day as you.

Why now?

For all of economic history, value creation ran on one formula: labour multiplied by time. That formula is breaking.

The new equation is human cognition multiplied by agentic output, which means your domain expertise is what builds companies now, not your headcount or your capital.

The MVB Sprint Day is the proof: 9 hours from idea to Minimum Viable Business, with the fund that's rebuilt its whole model around this shift.

How the day runs

Every block on Saturday opens with a short masterclass from a member of the Tramlines senior leadership team, then hands the rest of the time back to you to actually do the work. You leave with a validated idea, a working prototype, and a room full of operators who've seen this before.

Breaks happen when your team needs one, not on a fixed schedule.

9am - 9.20am

Opening

Welcome, room, briefing.

9.20am - 11.20am

Market validation

15 minutes from Albert or Craig on how to size and stress-test the market for your idea. The rest of the block, you're talking to real potential customers.

Albert Azis-Clauson (three-time exited founder, architect of the Tramlines model) or Craig Donaldson (founding CEO of Metro Bank, built to £26bn AUM and 2m+ customers).

11.20am - 1.20pm

Product theory validation

15 minutes from Andrew on how to prove the concept before you build anything scalable. Then you build the smallest thing that proves it.

Andrew Winters (MD of the Tramlines Accelerator, ex-Deloitte Managing Partner, ex-CISO and COO at NEOM).

1.20pm - 2pm

Walk and lunch

2pm - 4pm

Commercial validation

15 minutes from Erica on how to find your first 10 customers and build a repeatable sales motion before you scale. Then you go and sell.

Erica Young (Director of Networks and Distribution, 25 years at Atomico, Foresight and Anthemis).

4pm - 4.45pm

Pitch readiness

10 minutes from Albert on presenting your MVB. This is where you vibe-code your prototype, build slides, and rehearse the pitch.

Albert Azis-Clauson.

5pm

Short walk to our office

Three minutes on foot.

5.15pm - 6pm

Final presentations

Each team pitches to Craig, Andrew, Glen, Albert and the wider Tramlines senior leadership team.

6pm - 7pm

Networking, drinks and snacks

At our office, or the pub opposite.

Winner announced Tuesday 13 October.
